About

I created Gray Hour to share my photography and thoughts on its process and tools. The name references many photographers’ favorite conditions—blue hour and golden hour—while acknowledging that mornings and evenings here in the Pacific Northwest often bring only one kind of light: gray hour.

Based in Portland, Oregon, I am a digital and film photographer. I traded the darkroom for Lightroom, but my start in the analog world has profoundly influenced my aesthetic and relationship with photography. My personal work focuses on form, geometry, and balance, within the the broader genres of urban landscape and travel photography. For me, the camera provides a dynamic invitation to pursue new experience, connect with strangers, and search for beauty on unlikely sidestreets.
